He is a professor of psychiatry at the Topiwala National Medical College, and University of Mumbai. In addition to being principal investigator in drug trials in India, he has conducted studies in childhood psychosis, irritable bowel syndrome, and borderline personality disorder on which he has national and international publications Dr Pinto main work has been in geriatric psychiatry especially in dementia for which he has been awarded National and International Awards. His current area of work is in BPSD in dementia. Awarded the NIH grant for research in brain disorders for the collaborative project Cognitive loss in ageing in Mumbai with Mt Sinai Hospital New York for 2004-2005 and a further period of five years.
